Films and music videos

35mm, 16mm and digital

Some of my film and video projects.

時 - Time

A dark, shadowy, underground short film I directed for the Tokyo 48 hour film project 2020. The film earned awards for best art design, best sound design and was nominated for best cinematography and audience award. Concept, editing and voices by me. Music by Matteo Sapio. Cinematography by Yuji Oyama. Costume and set design by Carlotta Ungari.

I am a peacock

digital

A tragic love story in this sinister 2020 music video for BLIND FAITH RECORDS' new album, featuring Pierpaolo Ranieri's "I Am a Peacock". I directed this with Matteo Sapio, Yuji Oyama, Yusuke Isao, Simone Rubin, with the collaboration of VATBIN. Concept, editing and animations by me.

The cruelty of Fu-Manchu

16mm

The truly cruel FU-MANCHU casts a spell on one of his lady-prisoners. The man of a million faces Michael Mcquary stars in this 70s/20s expressionist drama with Gonca Yarimer as his victim. I shot this in 2005 with Francis Mrema on a spring-wound 16mm Krasnogorsk-3.

The visit

16mm

A young diplomat is appointed to Tokyo where a bizarre encounter opens his eyes on many things he has always taken for granted. Michael Mcquary, Lukas Bieri and Dana Shiraki star in a short film with haunting cinematography by Till Neumann and a powerful original music score from Mario Vattani. I directed this film in 2005 in New York City and Tokyo. Matteo Sapio, executive producer, directed the Japanese second unit crew.

Il dettaglio

35mm

An essential detail is missing in this one-shot 35mm short film I directed in 2005, starring Michael Mcquary, shot in Soho NYC with a euphoric crew and 10 enthusiastic super-committed actors from 10 different countries.

The tea ceremony

Some things cannot be fixed. Akiko Izawa and Yaniv Sardal in a silent 16mm short I directed and shot in NYC in 2005 on a 50s Arri-S.

The day Natasha made her decision

Gritty Tri-X black and white 16mm film I directed and shot in 2005 with a 50s Arri-S capturing Natasha Yakovleva and Cesar Zelada's perforating silent performances.

Faceless

The show is over, the actor takes off his face. This silent 2005 black and white film I directed and shot in NYC on a 50s Arri-S, features evocative music by Mario Vattani, and a striking performance by Michael Mcquary.

Soul Hunter

Massimo Mento is 'the Soul Hunter', in a short I shot and co-directed with Simone Rubin, made for the Rome 2016 48 hour film festival. We won best use of the object award, were nominated for best costume design, a VATBIN two-man crew production.

The Sakana Bar

This film triggered the spin-off music video for Pierpaolo Ranieri's 'I Am a Peacock', from BLIND FAITH RECORDS. The Sakana Bar earned an award for best sound design at the Tokyo 48 hour film festival 2019. Concept, editing and voice-over by me. Music and sound design by Matteo Sapio. Shot by Yuji Oyama, edited by Yusuke Isao. Costume and set design by Carlotta Ungari. Co-directed by all of us plus Simone Rubin.

My showreel from 2006

Drug of the nation

digital

A Rome 2014 48 hour film festival VATBIN production featuring Salvatore Marsullo, Lavinia Anselmi and Massimo Mento I co-directed with Simone Rubin. Future archaeologists fail to recognize anything but the ancestor of the cause of their demise.

Lean on me

digital

Massimo Mento stars in the VATBIN production of a metaphysical music video I shot and co-directed with Simone Rubin in 2015 for Martha High's successful hit, produced by BLIND FAITH RECORDS.

Sublime

dv

I shot this film starring Agostino Zamboni who won best actor award at the Rome 2009 48 hour film festival. The film was also nominated for best film and best direction. ANONIMA FILMAGGI co-directors Loreto Valente, Paolo Ricciotti and Mauro Zinghini, music by Andrea Zinghini.

Ads

Corporate projects and backstage videos

Viaggiare sicuri

In 2010 I made this ad for an official travel safety information service. I elaborated this penguin concept with footage from image-bank, edited it and composed the music. The quote at the beginning is by the ever inspiring Isabelle Eberhardt.

Receipts with superpowers

In 2006 I directed an ad on super-powered fiscal receipts, starring Roberto Andreucci, working together with the late Italian cinematographer Ennio Guarnieri.

People are strange

An extremely rare version of Jim Morrison's hit.
